About Us

Bienvenidos . . .  Welcome to our condo…Casa Dorothea. We are Ron and Crystal Flauaus, Americans who have been coming to Playa del Carmen since 2000. Our home is named after Ron’s mother, Dorothy, and like her, we want this house to be full of warmth, laughter, love and good times. We are happy that we can share Casa Dorothea with you and your family and we know that you will take care of our home and treat it like your own. We want you to be comfortable while enjoying our tropical retreat so you can soak up the tranquility, languish by the pools, stroll through the gardens, and explore all that Playa del Carmen has to offer.

In 2000, we started coming to Playa and staying at the all-inclusive resorts, then we rented and then finally took the plunge and bought property ... and never regretted it.  Once you leave the confines of a resort, you are free to truly enjoy a wonderful "Playa Experience".   We hope you'll also try living outside the resorts and discover all the wonderful things that the Playa area and our Hacienda have to offer.

We love to eat at the small local restaurants ... here we are (on right of both pictures) with friends at two of our favorite restaurants - LaBamba Jarocha (great seafood) on Av. 30 and at Mannes (great German food) on Calle 4.  Once you make your reservations, we will send you our complete list of our favorite off-5th Av restaurants and fun things to do in the Playa area.

When not spending the winter in Playa, we spend time on our farm, located in Central Pennsylvania or travel the USA in our Pop-Up camper.  Thank you for making Casa Dorothea your tropical home away from home. Enjoy !
